I ordered this gooseneck coupler and it arrived in 3 days as promised. It's heavy so I took it to a friend to install it. Took maybe 15 min and I can actually turn my truck and trailer without worrys about blowing out the window like I did the week before. So happy I found these guys, super easy to work with. I would recommend this product to everyone with a short bed truck.

I dont know how I made it without this coupler sooner. its magic, I love it.

by:

The extended coupler does EXACTLY what I needed - gave me extra turning room for my 8' wide horse trailer. (I've already knocked the back window out once - but no more)!!

Gives me peace of mind that I can travel and camp without a turning restriction.

Still does EXACTLY what I needed it for and has allowed me to make close turns easily. Highly recommend the extended coupler.

by:

I was terrified at every turn of smashing my truck. This extend-a-goose is the answer! Make sure you measure the clearance of your gooseneck support to the bed rails to make sure that extending it the 11 inches doesn’t cause that angled part to impact your truck. The build quality is fantastic, however!! I’m not impressed with the “paint” down around the coupler...after only having it for a month or so I’m seeing rust stains (I will likely cover with a trash bag so it is not out in the elements since it protrudes last the gooseneck overhang. Bottom line, of you want a shortbed and a gooseneck this is a must!!! I no longer worry about crushing my truck and I can swing to about 80 deg off my trailer without worry (before it was maybe 50 degrees) And as always, shout out to etrailer for being a great parts supplier!!!

by:

Does not fit all trailers! This isn't the fault of etrailers but it was an expensive lesson for me and now I'm stuck with an expensive doorstop that I can't use. The product information should be very clear that this is not compatible with all trailers.

by:

Works great. We tow this trailer 3-5 times a week. There’s no signs of wear. Trailer is typically around 10,000 lbs. Moved the trailer back a few inches. Now trailer has no chance of hitting back glass or cab of truck. Bought this after one of my employees popped the back glass on one of my trucks. Now I don’t have to worry about it happening again.

by:

This prevented the trailer from contacting the cab corner on a Ford 4-door super duty.

by:

This hitch was easy to install on a Featherlite 4 horse trailer. It has worked well and serves it's purpose to move the trailer back from the cab of the 1 ton shortbed ford we pull with. It's swell made and the latch is simple and can be locked when unhooked. It has pulled about 60k miles so far.

by:

Perfect fit! I can now pull my gooseneck without worry/issue with my short bed 2500! Been using it for a year now and it’s holding up great! Highly recommend!

by:

I could not use the hitch because my stock height on my 01 Dodge 3500 4x4 was too high. If I drop the hitch in the trailer tube to the height that I need to safely clear my bed it is considered too much to safely tow. Unfortunately it was going to cost over $100.00 to send it back. It just sits brand new in a box in my barn. Most trucks sit too high to use this hitch.

by:

Very sturdy and made very well, works g reat

Heavy duty, been working fine

by:

Outstanding! I bought this hitch one year ago and installed it on my trailer. This hitch makes hooking up to my truck super easy and allows a much larger turning radius. There is never a worry about damaging my tailgate on my truck. Trailer companies ought to have these hitches as a "standard" issue. Thanks to the person or persons that invented this devise!

by:

We have 2 of these because we have a short bed F350. Has saved us from damaging the truck bed and we don't have to worry about crunching our 4 door either.

by:

I bought this extender to give me better clearance between the trailer and tailgate/bumper of my truck . It worked out great ! Have me all the clearance I needed

by:

I live in the Flint Hills of Northeast Kansas and we started using a Bar Six Cake feeder on our pickup to take care of cattle on winter pasture. I couldn't pull my trailer without crunching the cake box. I saw an extend-a-goose on another truck with a similar set-up and I thought this might be the answer. I charted out my problem on paper and figured out the trigonometry that I could increase my turning radius by 18 degrees with the 10" drop in the hitch.

I went ahead and ordered the item and installed it the day it came, which incidentally is always very quick with E-Trailer products. It worked like a charm. We still have to be careful with the trailer, but the extender helps me do my job more efficiently.

by:

I had to get a shorter bed truck than my old one, and I have a big flat nosed gooseneck trailer that I was afraid I would put the back windows out with. The hitch was heavy but easy to install and I think it is exactly what I needed.

by:

The coupler is good quality and easy to install. It applies the down force from the trailer at the design point, so there is no compromise in trailer handling qualities for the truck. My truck is a 2016 Ford F-150 crew cab with a short bed, which has limited clearance for the gooseneck. My trailer is a two horse Sundowner gooseneck, which has a V-nose. With the extender, I can make the tightest possible turn moving forward with good clearance between the cab and trailer. Backing up, there is plenty of clearance provided that I do not jackknife the trailer. I estimated that contact would occur with an 82 degree angle between the trailer and truck. That means there is clearance for any maneuver you want to actually make, but of course if you jackknife the trailer too much it would be possible to damage the truck. This is an excellent solution for a v-nose trailer with the F150 crew cab. I would not recommend it for a flat nose trailer. I formerly had a standard bed F150 that I pulled this trailer with. There is no noticeable difference in pulling with the short bed and extended coupler as compared with the 2011 standard bed. The 2016 has more capacity thanks to the lower weight of the aluminum body and the higher torque of the 3.5L turbo charged V6.

Works great. I have not had any incidents or close calls in maneuvering the trailer. Did have one minor issue. Wasps like to enter the holes and build nests. Had to tape over them.

by:

Easy install. Provides clearance to cab in tight turns.

This product works as advertised and enabled my short bed truck to haul my gooseneck trailer without hitting the back of the cab.

by:

I bought this for my 8 wide square front trailer. I own a short box and the turning radius was just not what I wanted. Now that I have this I am not worried about smashing out my back window on my truck. The trailer hauls nicely and you would never know the sleeve of the trailer is pushed back.

by:

I use it every day , Great quality prod uct

by:

It is a great product, it gives me lots of turning range, without being concerned of hitting my cab, and at the same time keeping all the weight over the axle of the truck where it needs to be.

by:

Worked exactly as described.

by:

Good workmanship Fits well Used with B&W 4 in offset 2 5/16 ball in combo to get clearance between trailer corner and shortbed cab rear window on 2011 F350 pickup. Have a gooseneck 3 horse trailer with straight front that I used to pull with a F350 long bed pickup. Shortbed lacked clearance and this product took care of problem.

by:

Very well built and just what I needed to pull my 36 ft trailer.

It is wonderful, the extension works great and was just what I needed thanks

by:

Fast service. Heavy duty extension. Well worth the cost.

by:

Quality product. Installed in about 45 minutes on Big Tex GN. Very tight fit. Had to put old connection under with some blocks and let weight of trailer down on it to get it on.

Had this installed for a year pulling everyday. Installed backwards to shorten overall length of setup. Have had no issues besides changing it out by myself. Very tight fit to install which I figure is a good thing.

  • Can the B&W Extend-A-Goose and 4 Inch Offset Ball be Used Together
My contact at B&W told me that the Extend a Goose, # BWTEXA4200, and the 4 inch offset ball # BWGNXA4085 can be used together. However, the pivot point of the trailer will still only be 4 inches back from its original position meaning that you will get 4 inches of true offset, not 14. If your gooseneck trailer is a V-nose then the 4 inches might be enough to safely make tight turns. I have linked a video review of the Extend a Goose for you.

For an under bed gooseneck hitch I recommend the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, part # BWGNRK1384. This comes with a custom installation kit. The hitch has spring-loaded safety-chain hookups built in. The hitch ball can be removed and flipped upside down in the hitch for storage when you are not towing. The gooseneck can be used with a Companion fifth wheel hitch if you ever need to tow a fifth wheel. If you need a wiring harness for your trailer I recommend part # 41157.

It sounds like you are using B and W Gooseneck Hitch part # BWGNRK1197 on your 1998 F-150 with 6-1/2 ft bed with the standard ball that came with the hitch.
